SUB FOR SANTA was a great success!

We were touched by your generosity in donating to our Sub for Santa drive.  Not only did we receive some wonderful toys, but also more than $60 in cash.  It was so rewarding to see the look on the children's faces as they reported on how they earned the money, and the light in their eyes as we talked about how the little boys in the family we are helping will feel on Christmas morning. Thank you for your support and love!

Christmas Music fills our school

Play Rhyming Bridge is Falling Down

The joyful experience of music comes packed with learning potential.
The children practice listening skills as Dorothy explains our xylophone chorus.

Let the music ring out!

Jingle Bells brings a smile to everyone's faces.

Musical patterns and rhythm build pre reading skills as well.

Fill your child's holiday with joy and fun

We at Melody Lane would like to suggest that you help your child choose wisely the play venues they engage in during the holidays. Choose activities that stimulate creativity, communication and physical activity. We have a concern about the effect of exposure to violent electronic games and TV in early childhood.  Many studies lead to the conclusion that this exposure can have a lasting negative effect on the behavior and minds of the very young. Here is one such study reported by the American Psychological Association in Psychology: Science in Action:: A 2010 review by psychologist Craig A. Anderson and others concluded that “the evidence strongly suggests that exposure to violent video games is a causal risk factor for increased aggressive behavior, aggressive cognition, and aggressive affect and for decreased empathy and prosocial behavior.” Anderson’s earlier research showed that playing violent video games can increase a person's aggressive thoughts, feelings and behavior both in laboratory settings and in daily life. "One major conclusion from this and other research on violent entertainment media is that content matters," says Anderson.  (Anderson, C.A., Ihori, Nobuko, Bushman, B.J., Rothstein, H.R., Shibuya, A., Swing, E.L., Sakamoto, A., & Saleem, M. (2010). Violent Video Game Effects on Aggression, Empathy, and Prosocial Behavior in Eastern and Western Countries: A Meta-Analytic Review. Psychological Bulletin, Vo. 126, No. 2.)

We hope that your child's holiday will be filled with family, love and happy memories!

HEALTH ALERT

With cold and flu season upon us, we do our best to keep your child well.  It takes all of us working together to do a good job of this, and we would like to enlist your help.  If your child demonstrates any of the following that have not been okayed by a doctor, please do not send him/her to preschool: Fever, rash, recent vomiting or diarrhea, productive cough, sore throat or actively runny nose. Feel free to call Laurie if you have questions.  We want EVERYONE to be well for Christmas! Thank you.

Feast Details

On Monday and Tuesday, Nov 23,24, the children will attend regular preschool hours, filled with fun facts about the First Thanksgiving, lots of Pilgrim and Native American projects, music and games, and our feasts at 10:30 and 2:30.  Don't be surprised if they aren't too hungry after preschool these two days.  A happiest of Thanksgivings to you all!

Thanksgiving update

Just a reminder that the week of Thanksgiving, the children will attend Monday and Tuesday only.  The children will assist in the preparation of our Thanksgiving feast, and will don costumes to reenact that first Thanksgiving.  The menu will include sliced turkey, carrot sticks and dip, cranberry sauce, corn muffins, mashed potatoes and more!

Giving Thanks

We are thankful for many things this holiday season, most especially for the opportunity to teach your wonderful children. We are also very grateful that after a long and careful search, we have found our third teacher, Dorothy Nazer. She comes to us with 25 years' teaching experience in Logan City Schools, and a great love for children.  Our Melody Lane  kids instantly adored her, and we know you will too. Special thanks to Miss Janet, (who was hired to do only mornings), who has done a great job at double duty in both morning and afternoon classes with Miss Amanda while we sought the perfect afternoon teacher.

PUMPKIN WALK Field Trip Details

Thursday Oct 22 and Friday Oct 23 will be our Pumpkin Walk excursion.  We will not have regular school on site at Melody Lane those days.  All children will travel directly to the Elk Ridge park on the day they would normally be in preschool, with their parent or adult who will accompany them on this fun experience.  We will all meet at the large Halloween Mural entry gate at 10 AM (morning children) and 1 PM (afternoon children).  Wonderful weather is predicted, and we look forward to a delightful time viewing our display and wandering through this extraordinary event together.

A special shout-out to Jessica Wilkinson (Jordan's mom) who once again was our chairman and the mastermind of the event, and for all the generous moms who pitched in to help in one way or another to make our display wonderful!  We love our moms!
