SUB FOR SANTA was a great success!

We were touched by your generosity in donating to our Sub for Santa drive.  Not only did we receive some wonderful toys, but also more than $60 in cash.  It was so rewarding to see the look on the children's faces as they reported on how they earned the money, and the light in their eyes as we talked about how the little boys in the family we are helping will feel on Christmas morning. Thank you for your support and love!

Christmas Music fills our school

Play Rhyming Bridge is Falling Down

The joyful experience of music comes packed with learning potential.
The children practice listening skills as Dorothy explains our xylophone chorus.

Let the music ring out!

Jingle Bells brings a smile to everyone's faces.

Musical patterns and rhythm build pre reading skills as well.

Fill your child's holiday with joy and fun

We at Melody Lane would like to suggest that you help your child choose wisely the play venues they engage in during the holidays. Choose activities that stimulate creativity, communication and physical activity. We have a concern about the effect of exposure to violent electronic games and TV in early childhood.  Many studies lead to the conclusion that this exposure can have a lasting negative effect on the behavior and minds of the very young. Here is one such study reported by the American Psychological Association in Psychology: Science in Action:: A 2010 review by psychologist Craig A. Anderson and others concluded that “the evidence strongly suggests that exposure to violent video games is a causal risk factor for increased aggressive behavior, aggressive cognition, and aggressive affect and for decreased empathy and prosocial behavior.” Anderson’s earlier research showed that playing violent video games can increase a person's aggressive thoughts, feelings and behavior both in laboratory settings and in daily life. "One major conclusion from this and other research on violent entertainment media is that content matters," says Anderson.  (Anderson, C.A., Ihori, Nobuko, Bushman, B.J., Rothstein, H.R., Shibuya, A., Swing, E.L., Sakamoto, A., & Saleem, M. (2010). Violent Video Game Effects on Aggression, Empathy, and Prosocial Behavior in Eastern and Western Countries: A Meta-Analytic Review. Psychological Bulletin, Vo. 126, No. 2.)

We hope that your child's holiday will be filled with family, love and happy memories!
