PRE-READING SKILL OF THE MONTH

This month, we are stressing RHYMING WORDS.  It's easy and fun to play a rhyming game with your child.  Choose a simple three letter word to begin with, like hop, sit, or cat or similar easy to rhyme word.  Give your child a couple of examples of rhyming words and then give a word for your child to rhyme.  This is a great way to spend transition minutes while you are driving in a car, waiting in line, doing dishes, and it will help your child on the way to successful reading as well.  We sing a song a preschool to the tune of Muffin Man that you can also use:
Oh do you know some rhyming words, rhyming words, rhyming words,
oh do you know some rhyming words, they sound a lot alike.
Hop and pop are rhyming words, rhyming words, rhyming words,
Hop and pop are rhyming words, they sound a lot alike.

Substitute your own rhyming words or let your child choose a pair to insert. Happy Rhyming!
